A fence builder who knows the trade — not a marketing department

Level Up Fencing is owned and run by Marshal Ramer, based in Oconto, Wisconsin. We install and repair fence for residential and commercial customers across northeast Wisconsin — from Oconto, Oconto Falls and Peshtigo out to Green Bay, Shawano and the Door County peninsula.

We build wood, vinyl privacy, chain link, aluminum, wrought iron and composite fence, and we install gates. We also repair fence — any type — replace rotted and heaved posts, remove old fence and haul it off, and handle emergency fence repair after storms and accidents.

We say the unflattering things out loud: Wisconsin does not license fence contractors, a permit is usually required and it costs money, and Door County is an hour and a half away around the bay. That honesty is the whole point.

Seven materials plus gates. We treat aluminum and wrought iron as two different products — they are different materials at different price points for different buyers. Tap any service to see what goes into it.

01

Wood Fence

Pressure-treated cedar and treated pine privacy and semi-privacy fences — the classic Wisconsin backyard fence, built to take the weather.

02

Vinyl Privacy Fence

Low-maintenance PVC vinyl that won’t rot, split, or need paint. A clean, finished look that holds up through freeze and thaw.

03

Chain Link Fence

Galvanized chain link for yards, kennels, and commercial perimeters — durable, affordable, and see-through where you want it.

04

Wrought Iron Fence

Heavy-gauge steel and wrought iron for security and a high-end finish. Built to last decades and take a hit. A different product at a different price point than aluminum.

05

07

Gate Installation

Walk gates, drive gates, and custom-width gates hung on real posts — with hardware that actually latches and holds up to Wisconsin wind.

Fence Repair & Removal

Fence repair is half of what we do — not a footnote

Most fence company websites bury repair. We don't. If your fence is leaning, rotted, storm-damaged, or the gate won't close, you don't need a whole new fence — you need a repair. We fix any type, and we replace the posts that failed.

01

Fence Repair

Leaning, broken, rotted, or storm-damaged fence — any type, any material. We fix what's there before you pay to replace the whole run.

02

Gate Repair

Sagging gates, broken latches, frozen hinges, and gates that won't close. We rehang and re-hardware gates so they work like they should.

03

Fence Post Replacement

The post is usually the part that fails. We pull rotted and heaved posts, reset new ones below the frost line, and rehang your existing fence.

04

Fence Removal and Disposal

Old fence down and hauled off — posts, panels, and all. We take the whole job including the dump run so you're not left with a pile.

05

Emergency Fence Repair

Storm blew a section down, a vehicle hit the fence, or your gate won't secure the property. Call — we'll get a repair scheduled and get it secured.

Built for Wisconsin Winters

The post is the fence. The depth is the post.

A fence fails from the ground up. In Wisconsin, freeze and thaw heave a post out of the ground over the first winter if it isn't set below the frost line. Ice lifts the concrete, the post tilts, the run sags, and inside a season or two you have a leaning fence.

Depth is the first thing a cheap bid cuts. It's invisible once the hole is filled, so it's the easiest corner to quietly shave. That's why we specify the post depth in writing on every estimate — so you can see it and compare it against any other quote you get.

We don't publish a single post-depth number on this site because the exact figure is still being verified against the state code. What we will tell you, in writing, is that your posts go below the frost line — not to a number that looked good on a website.

FAQ

Straight answers about fence in Wisconsin

Does Wisconsin license fence contractors?

No. Wisconsin does not license or certify fence contractors. There is no state exam, no state credential, and no state registration required to install fence in Wisconsin. The state credential administered by the Department of Safety and Professional Services is the Dwelling Contractor certification, and its trigger is obtaining a building permit for a one- and two-family dwelling. A fence permit is a zoning permit, not a dwelling building permit. That is why we focus on what actually protects you — a written scope, a Diggers Hotline locate, and the permit handled correctly. Read more on our page about how to choose a fence contractor in Wisconsin.

Do I need a permit for a fence in Oconto or northeast Wisconsin?

Usually, yes — but it depends on your city or town. Wisconsin has no statewide fence permit. Fences are regulated locally through municipal and county zoning, which is why the rules and fees differ from place to place. For example, the City of Oconto requires a fence permit and a fence affidavit, and the City of Green Bay requires a permit for all new fences with a site plan. We confirm the local requirement with your municipality before we start and tell you in writing who pulls the permit.

Do you call Diggers Hotline before you dig?

Yes. Wisconsin Statute 182.0175 requires at least three business days advance notice to the one-call system before excavation. In Wisconsin that system is Diggers Hotline, reached by calling 811, and requests are accepted 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Every post hole is excavation, so we file the locate request before we dig. It is required by law and it is free.

How deep do you set fence posts in Wisconsin?

Posts must be set below the frost line, or freeze and thaw will heave them out of the ground over the first winter. Depth is the first thing a cheap bid cuts, and it is the most common reason a fence starts leaning after a season or two. We do not quote a single number on the website because the exact figure is still being verified against the state code — but we specify the post depth in writing on every estimate so you can see it and compare it.

Do you handle boundary and partition fences between neighbors?

Yes. Wisconsin Statutes Chapter 90 governs partition fences — the fence on the boundary between two properties used for farming or grazing. Section 90.03 requires adjoining owners to keep and maintain partition fences in equal shares unless they agree in writing to use markers instead. Town supervisors, city alderpersons and village trustees are the fence viewers who settle partition fence disputes. This matters in Oconto, Shawano, Kewaunee and Brown Counties, which are working agricultural counties. We will talk you through the neighbor side of it honestly.

Do you serve Door County and Sturgeon Bay?

Yes, on scheduled trips. There is no bridge across Green Bay, so we reach Door County by driving around the bay through the city of Green Bay. Sturgeon Bay is roughly an hour and a half from Oconto by road. We serve Door County on scheduled runs up the peninsula — tell us what you need and we will book it into the next run. We do not promise a specific response time for Door County

Do you do emergency fence repair?

Yes. Storm damage, a vehicle hit, or a gate that will not secure the property all count. Call us and we will get a repair scheduled and get the property secured. We describe emergency fence repair as a service we offer; we do not promise a specific response time or arrival window.
